Standard (BT.709) uses perceptual weights that match human vision. Luminosity (BT.601) uses the older TV standard with slightly warmer greens. Average divides each channel equally. Desaturation takes the HSL Lightness (midpoint of the max and min channels). High Contrast applies an S-curve for a dramatic, high-contrast look.

Grayscale images contain many shades of grey between black and white, preserving tonal detail. True black & white (bitmap) images have only two values — pure black or pure white — and lose all tonal information. This tool produces grayscale output.

For PNG export, quality is lossless. For JPG and WebP you can set the compression quality (1–100). The grayscale conversion itself is a lossless per-pixel operation.
